    About this tool

    This calculator counts the working days between any two dates. It removes Saturdays and Sundays, removes the eleven US federal holidays on the dates they are actually observed (a holiday that falls on a Saturday is observed the Friday before; one on a Sunday is observed the Monday after), and lets you add your own company holidays or closures. It is meant for project planning, contract turnaround estimates, payroll periods, shipping windows, and anyone who needs to know how many working days sit between two calendar dates without counting on their fingers.

    How it works

    The tool walks every calendar day from the start date to the end date (both counted when the inclusive option is on; otherwise the start date is skipped). A day counts as a business day when it is not a Saturday or Sunday and its date is not in the holiday list. The holiday list is generated per year from the federal rules: fixed dates (Jan 1, Jun 19, Jul 4, Nov 11, Dec 25) with Saturday-to-Friday and Sunday-to-Monday observance, plus the floating Monday holidays and the fourth Thursday of November. Dates are parsed as local calendar dates, so time zones and daylight saving changes never shift the count.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does the count include the start and end dates?

    By default yes: both endpoints count if they are business days, matching Excel's NETWORKDAYS. Untick the inclusive option and the start date is left out, which is the usual way to count working days remaining until a date from today.

    Which holidays are excluded?

    The eleven US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth (from 2021), Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Each is placed on its observed date, so July 4, 2026 (a Saturday) is skipped on Friday, July 3.

    Can I add my own holidays or closures?

    Yes. Type one date per line in the custom holidays box as YYYY-MM-DD, optionally followed by a name (for example 2026-12-24 Christmas Eve). Those dates are removed from the count and listed with the federal holidays that were skipped.

    Why does my count differ from another calculator?

    Most differences come from endpoint handling (whether both dates count), holiday sets (federal versus state, bank, or market holidays), and observed-date rules. The month table shows exactly which days this tool removed so you can reconcile the two results.
